A struggling poet named Vijay faces rejection from his family and publishers for writing about social issues instead of romance, but gains recognition from a prostitute and ex-girlfriend before being mistakenly declared dead and committed to a mental asylum. Pyaasa is a 1957 Indian Hindi-language Drama Musical motion picture featuring Guru Dutt, Mala Sinha, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, Rehman Khan, Kumkum and Tina Katkar. Guru Dutt Films Pvt. Ltd. was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Guru Dutt. Pyaasa is written by Abrar Alvi and directed by Guru Dutt. Guru Dutt Films Pvt. Ltd. acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Pyaasa was released on 19th February 1957 and takes a screen time of 153 minutes. Pyaasa was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹47 lakh. The screenplay for the movie was written by Guru Dutt. Cinematography was done by V. K. Murthy and editing by Y. G. Chawhan. The music was composed by Sachin Dev Burman along with S. D. Burman.
