Parineeta

In 1962 Kolkata, Shekhar is torn between his impending marriage to Gayatri and his childhood attachment to Lalita, leading to a series of connections and misunderstandings that only resolve when Shekhar recognizes his true love for Lalita and brings her back home. Parineeta is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language Drama Musical movie starring Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Raima Sen, Diya Mirza, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Yogendra Singh Waldia. The movie is inspired from Parineeta by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Granite House Inc. in association with High Noon Entertainment, SAGE PRODUCTIONS and INC. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Parineeta is written by Saratchandra Chatterjee, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rekha Nigam, Pradeep Sarkar and Arnav Chakravarti and it is directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Vinod Chopra Productions acquired the distribution rights for the film. Parineeta was released on 10th June 2005 and takes a screen time of 130 minutes. Parineeta was made on a budget of ₹17 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹16 crore. Cinematography was done by Natarajan Subramaniam and editing by Hemanti Sarkar and Nitish Sharma. The music was composed by Shantanu Moitra. At the 2006 IIFA Awards It won 4 awards including: Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Designer and Best Makeup. At the 2006 IIFA Awards It also won an award for Best Female Debut. At the 2006 Filmfare Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Art Direction and Best Sound Design. At the 2006 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Debut Film of a Director.
