The series follows a Cuban-American family as they navigate through various challenges, including Penelopes return to civilian life after serving in the Army, her separation from her husband due to his alcoholism caused by PTSD, her dating life, her own PTSD, her daughter Elenas coming out journey and relationship with a non-binary person, Lydia surviving a stroke and taking the citizenship test, Schneiders father threatening their home, Alex being grounded and later forgiven, and Penelope earning a nurse practitioner degree. One Day at a Time is a 2017 American English-language Comedy television show starring Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rita Moreno and Glenn Scarpelli. The series is inspired from One Day at a Time by Whitney Blake Allan Manings. Act III Productions in association with Snowpants Productions, Big Girl Pants Productions, Small Fish Studios, Glo Nation , Smiley Guy Studios and Sony Pictures Television. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, Patricia Fass Palmer and Justina Machado. Netflix acquired the distribution rights for the show. Creators of the series include Gloria Calder n Kellett and Mike Royce. One Day at a Time has 4 seasons and a cumulative total of 46 episodes which have a running time of 21-35 minutes each. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. The music was composed by Jeff Barry along with Nancy Barry.
