A young boy named Oliver Twist faces mistreatment and abuse in a workhouse, is apprenticed to an undertaker where he experiences bullying, runs away to London, joins a criminal gang of child pickpockets led by Fagin, is wrongly accused of theft but rescued by a kind man named Mr. Brownlow, is kidnapped by a criminal couple but is ultimately saved, and discovers his true family and a happy ending. Oliver Twist was released on 15th October 1948. Oliver Twist was made on a budget of $60 million and at the box office it grossed only $42 million.
