A young girl named Marie receives a broken nutcracker as a gift, and when she checks on it at midnight, it comes to life and leads her in a battle against mice before transforming into a prince and taking her to the Land of Sweets. The movie is based on Peter Martins s stage production of The Nutcracker. Nutcracker, The was Produced by Robert Hurwitz and Robert A. Krasnow. Nutcracker, The is written by Susan Cooper, Thomas Keneally and Steven Zaillian and it is directed by Emile Ardolino and Steven Spielberg. Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights for the film. The film has a running time of 92 minutes. Nutcracker, The was made on a budget of $19 million and at the box office it grossed only $2 million. Cinematography was done by Ralf D. Bode and editing by Girish Bhargava. The music was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
