The movie is based on Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody and William Hoffer. Pathe Entertainment in association with Ufland Productions. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Harry J. Ufland and Mary Jane Ufland. Not Without My Daughter is written by Betty Mahmoody, William Hoffer and David W. Rintels and it is directed by Brian Gilbert. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Not Without My Daughter was released on 11th January 1991 in English and Persian languages and takes a screen time of 116 minutes. The movie takes the story of Betty Mahmoodys escape from Iran and turns it into a demagogic anti Iranian horror show one that, in the current climate, can easily feed anti Iraqi sentiment as well.It would all be worth getting mad over were the film not so plodding or so obvious in its tactics.
