A Bengali actor meets a journalist on a train journey and confides in her about his insecurities and past affairs, while she empathizes with him and decides not to publish her interview to allow him to maintain his public image. Nayak is a 1966 Indian Bengali-language Drama movie featuring Uttam Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Bireswar Sen, Somen Bose, Nirmal Ghosh, Premangshu Bose and Ranjit Singha. R. D. Banshal & Co. was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) R. D. Banshal and Sharankumari Bansal. The film is written and directed by Satyajit Ray. Edward Harrison acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Nayak was released on 6th May 1966 and takes a screen time of 117 minutes. Nayak was made on a budget of ₹21 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹10 crore. Cinematography was done by Subrata Mitra and editing by Dulal Dutta and Satyajit Ray. The music was composed by National Award winner Satyajit Ray. At the 1967 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Screenplay.
