The theme of the show sees Gadsby explaining her life as a lesbian and the reason she wants to give up stand up comedy which mostly involves self-deprecating humor. Nanette is a comedy performance written by Hannah Gadsby. Nanette won a lot of awards including Best Comedy award at Adelaide Fringe Festival, Barry Award for outstanding comedy at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and best comedy performer Award in Edinburg Comedy Awards and Helpman awards. Initially, the show was named as Barista after the person she had met and felt can be turned into an hour’s worth of material. In June 2018, Netflix released a video of Gadsby s performance of the work at the Sydney Opera House. The show was appreciated by the critics and audiences.
