After the 1916 Easter Rising and subsequent executions of rebel leaders, the Irish War of Independence begins with Sinn Féins declaration of independence, leading to a split in the movement, violent conflict, and the eventual assassination of a key leader during peace negotiations. Michael Collins is a 1996 American English-language Biography Drama motion picture starring Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rea, Alan Rickman, Ian Hart, Julia Roberts and Lesley Conroy. The Geffen Film Company in association with Warner Bros. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Stephen Woolley. Michael Collins is written by Peter Dexter, Delia Ephron, Jim Quinlan and Neil Jordan and it is directed by Nora Ephron and Neil Jordan. Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights for the movie. The movie has a running time of 132 minutes. Michael Collins was made on a budget of $25 million and at the box office it grossed only $11 million. Cinematography was done by Chris Menges and editing by J. Patrick Duffner and Tony Lawson. The music was composed by Elliot Goldenthal. At the 1996 Venice Film Festival It won an award for Best Actor (Liam Neeson).
