In 1929, a young girl named Chiyo Sakamoto is sold to become a geisha, faces abuse from a rival geisha, and after years of hardship, becomes a successful geisha named Sayuri who eventually finds love with the Chairman after World War II. Memoirs of a Geisha is a 2005 American English-language Drama Romance film featuring Zhang Ziyi, Ken Watanabe, Michelle Yeoh, K Ji Yakusho, Youki Kudoh, Kaori Momoi and Nina Xining Zuo. The movie is inspired from Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Memoirs of a Geisha was Produced by Lucy Fisher, Steven Spielberg and Douglas Wick. Memoirs of a Geisha is written by Robin Swicord and Arthur Golden and it is directed by Rob Marshall. Sony Pictures Releasing acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture.
