Horror Mystery Sci-fi Thriller

A group of people on a yacht trip to an island discover a mutated ecosystem caused by nuclear testing, and after consuming addictive mushrooms, many turn into humanoid mushroom creatures, resulting in catastrophic consequences explored in the novels themes of addiction, mutation, and morality. Matango is a 1962 Japanese English-language Horror Mystery movie starring Akira Kubo, Kumi Mizuno, Kenji Sahara, Hiroshi Tachikawa, Yoshio Tsuchiya, Hiroshi Koizumi and Ted Thomas. The movie is inspired from The Voice in the Night by William Hope Hodgson. Toho Co. in association with Ltd. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Tomoyuki Tanaka. The movie is directed by Ishir Honda. Toho acquired the distribution rights for the film. Matango was released on 11th August 1963 and takes a screen time of 89 minutes. The screenplay for the movie was written by Takeshi Kimura. Cinematography was done by Hajime Koizumi and editing by Reiko Kaneko. The music was composed by Sadao Bekku.
