Taken from Hubert Selby, Jr. s controversial novel set in early 1950s Brooklyn. During a bitter strike by workers against a local factory, a gallery of struggling characters are crushed by their squalid surroundings and selves: an unhappily married union strike leader discovers he is gay; a jaded prostitute falls in love with one of her clients, a naive young sailor; a union negotiator attempts to peacefully resolve the strike while desperately hiding the fact that he s a communist ; the family of a striking factory worker cannot cope with the fact that their teenage daughter is illegitimately pregnant. Written by Serdar Yegulalp Last Exit to Brooklyn is a 1989 English-language Drama film featuring Stephen Lang, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Burt Young, Peter Dobson, Jerry Orbach, Stephen Baldwin and F.x. Vitolo. The movie is based on Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr. Allied Filmmakers in association with Bavaria Film and Cinecom Pictures. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Bernd Eichinger. The movie is directed by Uli Edel. Neue Constantin Film acquired the distribution rights for the film. Last Exit to Brooklyn was released on 12th October 1989 and takes a screen time of 103 minutes.
