Reetha International was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Prem Navas. Keni is written by Vijayan Karote and Jagathy N. K. Achary and it is directed by J Sasikumar and J. Sasikumar. Reetha International acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Keni was released on 3rd December 1982. The screenplay for the movie was written by Reetha. Cinematography was done by Melli Irani and editing by M. S. Mani. The music was composed by G. Devarajan.

Keni is ostensibly about water scarcity. A small village, Puliyanmalai, in Tamil Nadus Tirunelveli district is in the clutches of a man made drought. As corrupt ministers try to take advantage of the situation by relocating the villagers and starting an industrial development project in the area, the only hope of people is Jaya Pradas Indira.
