The movie is directed by Baiju Kottarakkara and Priyadarshan. Pranamam Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Kalapam was released on 1st January 1998 and takes a screen time of 180 minutes. Kalapam was made on a budget of ₹2 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by T. Damodaran and Priyadarshan. Cinematography was done by Santosh Sivan and editing by N. Gopalakrishnan. The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
