Damodaran and Priyadarshan Nair and it is directed by Priyadarshan Nair. Pranamam Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Kalaapani was released on 12th April 1996 and takes a screen time of 180 minutes. Kalaapani was made on a budget of ₹2 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by T. Damodaran and Priyadarshan. Cinematography was done by Santosh Sivan and editing by N. Gopalakrishnan. The music was composed by National Award winner Ilaiyaraaja.
