A deaf and mute boy, Iqbal, dreams of playing cricket for India and through trials and tribulations, he overcomes obstacles to achieve his dream. Iqbal is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language Drama Sport film starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shreyas Talpade, Girish Karnad, Yatin Karyekar, Prateeksha Lonkar, Shweta Basu Prasad and Pratikhsa Lonkar. Sharp Entertainment was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Subhash Ghai. Iqbal is written by Nagesh Kukunoor, Vipul K. Rawal and Mir Ali Hussain and it is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. Mukta Searchlight Films acquired the distribution rights for the film. Iqbal was released on 26th August 2005 and takes a screen time of 132 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Iqbal was made on a budget of ₹2 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹3 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Nagesh Kukunoor. Cinematography was done by Sudeep Chatterjee and editing by Sanjib Datta. The music was composed by IIFA Award winner Himesh Reshammiya along with Salim Merchant, Sulaiman Merchant, Sukhwinder Singh, Salim Sulaiman, Om The Fusion Band and Sarosh-kedar. At the 2006 IIFA Awards It won an award for Best Story. At the 2006 National Film Awards It also won 2 awards including: Best Supporting Actor (Naseeruddin Shah) and Best Film on Other Social Issues (Naseeruddin Shah).
