Madhav and Riya meet at college through a sports quota, but their complicated relationship leads to a separation until they eventually reunite after Riya is diagnosed with blood cancer. The movie is inspired from Half Girlfriend by Chetan Bhagat. ALT Entertainment was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Chetan Bhagat, Ekta Kapoor, Mohit Suri and Shobha Kapoor. Half Girlfriend is written by Chetan Bhagat, Tushar Hiranandani and Ishita Moitra and it is directed by Mohit Suri. Balaji Motion Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Half Girlfriend was released on 18th May 2017 and takes a screen time of 130 minutes. Half Girlfriend was made on a budget of ₹58 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹52 crore. Cinematography was done by Vishnu Rao and editing by Devendra Murdeshwar. The music was composed by Jeet Ganguly along with Mithoon Sharma, Rahul Mishra, Raju Singh, Tanishk Bagchi, Rishi Rich, Farhan Saeed and Ami Mishra.
