A young man from a small village in Gujarat named Gurukant Desai overcomes obstacles and rises to success through his own business, but faces a downfall when his illegal activities are exposed and he is brought before a government inquiry. Guru is a 2007 Indian Hindi-language Biography Drama film featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Roshan Seth and Ashoi Dantra. The movie is based on Dhirubhai Ambani. Reliance Entertainment in association with Madras Talkies. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) N Srinivasa Reddy, Mani Ratnam and G. Srinivasan. Guru is written by Mani Ratnam, Vijay Krishna Acharya, Anurag Kashyap, Sujatha Rangarajan and Suhasini Maniratnam and it is directed by Mani Ratnam. Madras Talkies acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Guru was released on 12th January 2007 and takes a screen time of 162 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Guru was made on a budget of ₹22 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹45 crore. Cinematography was done by Rajiv Menon and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. The music was composed by Ar Rahman along with A. R. Rahman. At the 2008 IIFA Awards It won 2 awards including: Best Music Director and Best Playback Singer - Female. At the 2008 Filmfare Awards It also won 3 awards including: Best Background Score, Best Choreography and Best Production Design.
