In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is Ordinal Scale (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma. Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, and soon Kirito decides to join them. However, they re about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn t all fun and games. Gekijo-ban Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is a 2017 Japanese Japanese-language Animation Action movie starring Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Haruka Tomatsu, Ayana Taketatsu, Kanae It, Rina Hidaka, Ayahi Takagaki and Kôichi Yamadera. The movie is inspired from Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara. A-1 Pictures was the production house involved in the project. The movie is directed by Tomohiko It. Aniplex acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Gekijo-ban Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale was released on 18th February 2017 and takes a screen time of 119 minutes. The motion picture made a box office gross of $4 billion. The screenplay for the movie was written by Reki Kawahara and Tomohiko It. Cinematography was done by Kentar Waki and editing by Shigeru Nishiyama. The music was composed by Yuki Kajiura.
