A man seeks revenge against a gang leader who killed his father amid a power struggle in Five Points, eventually defeating him in a violent gang battle. Gangs of New York is a 2002 American English-language Crime Drama motion picture starring Leonardo Dicaprio, Daniel Day-lewis, Cameron Diaz, Jim Broadbent, John C. Reilly, Henry Thomas and Claudio Zucchet. The movie is inspired from The Gangs of New York by Herbert Asbury. Touchstone Pictures in association with Miramax Films, Alberto Grimaldi Productions and Initial Entertainment Group. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Alberto Grimaldi and Harvey Weinstein. Gangs of New York is written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian and Kenneth Lonergan and it is directed by Martin Scorsese. Buena Vista Distribution acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Gangs of New York was released on 1st January 2003 and takes a screen time of 167 minutes. Gangs of New York was made on a budget of $100 million and at the box office it grossed only $2 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian and Kenneth Lonergan. Cinematography was done by Michael Ballhaus and editing by Thelma Schoonmaker. The music was composed by Academy Award Oscar winner Howard Shore.
