First Reformed

An interesting mystery thriller First Reformed revolves around Ernst Toller, pastor of First Reformed Church in Snowbridge who is trying to cope up with his faith issues after he bumps into an erratic environmental activist and his wife. The film stars Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, and Cedric Kyles. The filming took place in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, and was completed in 20 days. It was directed by Paul Schrader. The film was produced by Jack Binder, Greg Clark, Victoria Hill, Gary Hamilton, Deepak Sikka, Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa, and Frank Murray for Killer Films, Omeira Studio Partners, Fibonacci Films, Arclight Films, and Big Indie Productions and was distributed by A24. The music was composed by Lustmord. Adept cinematography by Alexander Dynan and clear cut editing by Benjamin Rodriguez Jr. makes it a watchable movie. The film was released on May 18, 2018, and occupies a screentime of 113 minutes. An R certificate for the movie was provided by the MPAA. Few aspects of the film are inspired by Robert Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest (1951), Ingmar Bergman's Winter Light (1963), and Taxi Driver (1976).
