The movie is inspired from The Boys in the Bank by P. F. Kluge. Artists Entertainment Complex was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Martin Bregman and Martin Elfand. Dog Day Afternoon is written by Frank Pierson, P.f. Kluge, Thomas Moore and Leslie Waller and it is directed by Sidney Lumet. Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. The film has a running time of 125 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released and became successful at box office. Dog Day Afternoon was made on a budget of $1 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $50 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Frank Pierson. Cinematography was done by Victor J. Kemper and editing by Dede Allen At the 1976 Oscar Awards It won an award for Best Writing, Original Screenplay.
