Devdas is a tragic love story about a man who is unable to be with his childhood friend due to societal pressures, leading to his downfall. Devdas is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language Musical Romance motion picture featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Kiron Kher and Raja Kapssey. The movie is based on Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Mega Bollywood was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Bharat S Shah and Bharat Shah. Devdas is written by Saratchandra Chatterjee, Prakash Kapadia, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prakash Ranjit Kapadia and it is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Eros International acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Devdas was released on 12th July 2002 and takes a screen time of 174 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Devdas was made on a budget of ₹44 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹41 crore. Cinematography was done by Binod Pradhan and editing by Bela Sehgal. The music was composed by Filmfare Award winner Monty Sharma along with Ismail Darbar and Birju Maharaj. At the 2003 IIFA Awards It won 9 awards including: Best Choreography, Best Sound Recording, Best Make Up, Best Cinematography, Best Dialogue, Best Art Direction, Best Song Recording, Best Sound Re-Recording and Best Costume Designer. At the 2003 IIFA Awards It also won 9 awards including: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Shah Rukh Khan), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Best Supporting Actress (Kiron Kher), Best Picture, Direction, Actor in a Leading Role, Actress in a Leading Role, Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Director. At the 2003 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. At the 2003 National Film Awards It also won 4 awards including: Best Playback Singer (Female), Best Art Direction, Best Choreography and Best Costume Designer. At the 2003 Filmfare Awards It also won an award for Best Scene. At the 2003 Filmfare Awards It also won 4 awards including: Best Story, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.
