South African journalist Donald Woods is forced to flee the country, after attempting to investigate the death in custody of his friend, the black activist Steve Biko. Cry Freedom is a 1987 English-language Biography Drama movie starring Kevin Kline, Penelope Wilton, Denzel Washington, Josette Simon, Wabei Siyolwe, John Matshikiza and Ian Mcneice. Marble Arch Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Sir Richard Attenborough. Cry Freedom is written by John Briley and Donald Woods and it is directed by Richard Attenborough and Sir Richard Attenborough. Universal Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Cry Freedom was released on 6th November 1987 in English,Afrikaans,Xhosa and Zulu languages and takes a screen time of 157 minutes. Cry Freedom was made on a budget of $29 million and at the box office it grossed only $5 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by John Briley. Cinematography was done by Ronnie Taylor and editing by Lesley Walker. The music was composed by George Fenton along with Jonas Gwangwa.
