After a rebel group led by Vladimir Radchenko takes control of a nuclear missile installation in post-Soviet Russia, the USS Alabama is ordered to launch a pre-emptive strike, leading to conflict between Captain Frank Ramsey and Lieutenant Commander Ron Hunter over the decision, but they ultimately find vindication and Hunter is given his own submarine while Ramsey retires, highlighting the shift in launch authority from submarine captains to the U.S. President. Hollywood Pictures in association with Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Films. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. Crimson Tide is written by Michael Schiffer and Richard P. Henrick and it is directed by Tony Scott. Buena Vista Pictures Distribution acquired the distribution rights for the film.
