Charulata is a Bengali film that explores the themes of love, betrayal, and intellectual companionship in Calcutta during Indias British rule, following Charulatas intimate friendship with Bhupatis younger cousin Amal and its abrupt end due to Amals guilt over his role in swindling Bhupati of his money. Charulata is a 1964 Indian Bengali-language Drama Romance film featuring Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Sailen Mukherjee, Syamal Ghosal, Shailen Mukherjee, Shyamal Ghoshal and Subrata Sensharma. The movie is based on Nastanirh by Rabindranath Tagore. R. D. Bansal & Co. was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) R. D. Bansal. Charulata is written by Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray and it is directed by Satyajit Ray. Edward Harrison acquired the distribution rights for the film.
