Celluloid depicts the life of J.C. Daniel, the creator of the first Malayalam film, who faces discrimination and hardships as he strives to realize his dream of making movies in a caste-divided society. Celluloid is a 2013 Indian Malayalam-language Biography Drama motion picture starring Sreenivasan, Mamta Mohandas, Nedumudi Venu, Chandni, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Chandini and Shafeer Sait. The movie is inspired from Life of J. C. Daniel by Chelangatt Gopalakrishnan Nashta Naayika by Vinu Abraham. Prime Time Cinema was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Kamal and Ubaid. Celluloid is written by Vinu Abraham, Kamal and Ubaid and it is directed by Kamal. Murali Films acquired the distribution rights for the film. Celluloid was released on 15th February 2013 and takes a screen time of 129 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Celluloid was made on a budget of ₹3 crore and it was a super hit at box office gross of ₹16 crore. Cinematography was done by Venu and editing by K. Rajagopal. The music was composed by M. Jayachandran. At the 2013 National Film Awards It won an award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. At the 2014 South Filmfare Awards It also won an award for Critics Award for Best Actor (Prithviraj Sukumaran).
