In 1280, after witnessing the brutality of King Edward Longshanks and his troops, William Wallace leads a rebellion against the English to secure Scotlands freedom, with the support of other Scots and aid from Isabella, ultimately inspiring Robert the Bruce to lead the Scots to victory at the Battle of Bannockburn. Braveheart is written by Randall Wallace and directed by Mel Gibson. Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Braveheart was released on 24th May 1995 and takes a screen time of 178 minutes. Braveheart was made on a budget of $72 million and at the box office it grossed only $0 million.
