A teenage boy named Birdy in 1960s Philadelphia befriends his neighbor, builds and loses aviaries, restores a car with his friend Al, rejects advances from a prom date, imagines flying like a bird, ends up in a mental hospital after surviving a helicopter crash in the Vietnam War, and eventually jumps off a ledge but appears unharmed. Birdy is a 1984 American English-language Drama War film featuring Matthew Modine, Nicolas Cage, John Harkins, Sandy Baron, Karen Young, Bruno Kirby and Anastasia Kozek. The movie is inspired from Birdy by William Wharton. A&M Films was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Alan Marshall. The movie is directed by Alan Parker. TriStar Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the motion picture. Birdy was released on 21st December 1984 and takes a screen time of 120 minutes. Birdy was made on a budget of $12 million and at the box office it grossed only $1 million. The screenplay for the movie was written by Sandy Kroopf and Jack Behr. Cinematography was done by Michael Seresin and editing by Gerry Hambling. The music was composed by Peter Gabriel.
