A wealthy woman named Doris Duke hires Bernard Lafferty as her majordomo, forming a close bond as he takes care of her estates and accompanies her on trips, while dealing with his troubled past, questions about his sexuality, and a resurfacing drinking problem, ultimately leading to accusations of murder and his death from alcohol-related complications.
