Mary Rutledge arrives from the east, finds her fiance dead, and goes to work at the roulette wheel of Louis Charnalis Bella Donna.. Samuel Goldwyn Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Samuel Goldwyn. Barbary Coast is written by Edward Chodorov, Ben Hecht, Stephen Longstreet and Charles Macarthur and it is directed by Howard Hawks. United Artists acquired the distribution rights for the film. The film has a running time of 90 minutes. and it received positive reviews from critics when it was released. Barbary Coast was made on a budget of $1 million. Cinematography was done by Ray June and editing by Edward Curtiss. The music was composed by Alfred Newman.
