Capt. C.S. Nairs wife Rekha becomes lonely in their mansion while he is away for work, leading her to spend time with her friend Inspector Stephens daughter Lilly and take care of her late sister-in-laws son Biju; however, when Capt. Nair is told about Bijus mothers passing, he suggests sending Biju to a boarding school, and during one of Capt. Nairs absences, Rekha has an accidental affair with Balu, leading to a confession and a dramatic climax when Capt. Nair insists Balu marries Rekha, but he refuses. Asthram is a 1983 Indian Malayalam-language Drama Romance movie starring Bharath Gopi, Mammootty, Nedumudi Venu, Jyothi, Mohanlal Viswanathan, Shalini and Bhagyalakshmi. Menon Films was the production house involved in the project. Asthram is written by P.n. Menon, John Paul and P. N. Menon and it is directed by P.n. Menon and P. N. Menon. Menon Films acquired the distribution rights for the movie. Asthram was released on 9th November 1983 and takes a screen time of 125 minutes. The screenplay for the movie was written by John Paul. Cinematography was done by Devi Prasad and editing by T. Sasikumar. The music was composed by Shyam.
