Aligarh tells the true story of Ramchandra Siras, a Marathi professor who was suspended and sacked from his job after being caught on tape having sex with a male rickshaw-puller, and his subsequent legal battle and tragic death. Aligarh is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language Biography Drama film featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sukhesh Arora, Balaji Gauri, Sumit Gulati and Deependra Singh. Eros Entertainment in association with Karma Pictures. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Hansal Mehta, Sandeep Singh, Sunil Lulla, Shailesh R Singh and Sandip Ssingh. Aligarh is written by Apurva Asrani and Ishani Banerjee and it is directed by Hansal Mehta. Aligarh was released on 26th February 2016 and takes a screen time of 114 minutes. Aligarh was made on a budget of ₹11 crore and at the box office it grossed only ₹2 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Apurva Asrani. Cinematography was done by Satya Rai Nagpaul and editing by Apurva Asrani. The music was composed by Karan Kulkarni. At the 2017 Filmfare Awards It won an award for Best Actor (Shahid Kapoor).
