Akeelah and the Bee

An 11-year-old girl from South Los Angeles is encouraged by her school principal to enter a spelling bee, where she eventually excels and makes it to the finals with the help of her community. Akeelah and the Bee is a 2006 American English-language Drama Family motion picture starring Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, Keke Palmer, Curtis Armstrong, J.r. Villarreal, Sean Michael Afable and Galda E. Ortiz. Lionsgate Films in association with 2929 Entertainment, Starbucks Entertainment, Out of the Blue Entertainment, Reactor Films and Cinema Gypsy Productions. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Laurence Fishburne, Sid Ganis, Nancy Hult Ganis, Danny Llewelyn and Michael Romersa. The film is written and directed by Doug Atchison. Lionsgate Films acquired the distribution rights for the film. Akeelah and the Bee was released on 31st August 2006 and takes a screen time of 112 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Akeelah and the Bee was made on a budget of $8 million and it was a super hit at box office gross of $18 million. Cinematography was done by David Mullen and editing by Glenn Farr.
