A textile factory worker falls in love with an idealist and they marry, but their relationship is strained when he joins a political party and takes a mistress, causing the woman to leave with their child, leading to tragic events that culminate in her stabbing him to death during an Independence Day ceremony and her subsequent arrest. Kavithalayaa Productions was the production house involved in the project along with executive producer(s) Rajam Balachander and Pushpa Kandaswamy. The movie is written and directed by K. Balachander. Kavithalayaa Productions acquired the distribution rights for the film. Achamillai Achamillai was released on 1st January 1984 and takes a screen time of 161 minutes. Cinematography was done by B. S. Lokanath and editing by N. R. Kittu. The music was composed by V. S. Narasimhan. At the 1985 South Filmfare Awards It won 3 awards including: Best Actress (Saritha Chandrasekhar), Best Film and Best Director. At the 1985 National Film Awards It also won an award for Best Feature Film in Tamil.
