In the world of cockfighting in Madurai, rooster trainer Periyasamy and police inspector Rathnaswamy, who were both mentored by retired champion Doraisamy, become fierce competitors, with Periyasamys unbeatable birds and unique methods, while Rathnaswamy manipulates others in order to persuade Periyasamy to participate in one last fight to fulfill his mothers wish, leading to a climactic showdown and unexpected consequences. Group Companys in association with Five Star Films. were the production houses involved in the project along with executive producer(s) S Kathiresan. Aadukalam is written by Meghana Karthik, Vetrimaaran, S Kathiresan, Vetrimaran and Vikram Sugumaran and it is directed by Vetrimaaran and Vetrimaran. Sun Pictures acquired the distribution rights for the film. Aadukalam was released on 13th January 2011 and takes a screen time of 156 minutes. The Film was successful at box office. Aadukalam was made on a budget of ₹20 crore and it was a hit at box office gross of ₹30 crore. The screenplay for the movie was written by Vetrimaran and Vikram Sugumaran. Cinematography was done by Velraj and editing by Kishore Te. The music was composed by Gv Prakash Kumar along with G. V. Prakash Kumar.
