The film chronicles the journey of two friends who create the National Lampoon magazine, facing challenges, gaining success through lawsuits, leading to one friends burnout and departure while the other continues to run and expand the magazine, until being bought out and transferred to Saturday Night Live, ultimately ending with the tragic death of one of the friends in 1980.
