Stephen Harold Tobolowsky (born May 30, 1951) is an American character actor, author, and musician. He is known for film roles such as annoying insurance agent Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day and amnesiac Sammy Jankis in Christopher Nolan's Memento, as well as such television characters as Commissioner Hugo Jarry (Deadwood), Bob Bishop (Heroes), Sandy Ryerson (Glee), Stu Beggs (Californication), and Action Jack Barker (Silicon Valley).
Tobolowsky has a monthly audio podcast, The Tobolowsky Files, of autobiographical stories of his acting and personal life. Since March 2015 he has run a weekly second podcast called Big Problems - An Advice Podcast, though as of May 2017 it has not been updated in nearly two years.
He has also authored three books: The Dangerous Animals Club and Cautionary Tales are based on original stories from his Podcast The Tobolowsky Files,. My Adventures With God (Simon & Schuster April 18, 2017), a humorous, introspective story collection about love, catastrophe, and triumph, all told through the lens of Tobolowsky's evolving relationship with the mystery that is “God.”
