Sérgio Fernando Moro (ˈsɛʁʒju ˈmoɾu; born 1 August 1972) is a Brazilian federal judge, writer and college professor. In 2015 he gained fame for acting in the corruption scandal named Operation Car Wash (Operação Lava Jato), a case of high-profile scandals of corruption and bribery involving government officials and business executives. On 29 October 2018, days after the 2018 election, President-elect Jair Bolsonaro nominated judge Moro as Minister of Justice and Public Security. On 1 November, Moro accepted the invitation after a meeting with Bolsonaro.
