Rohit "Ro" Khanna ˈroʊ_ˈkɑːnə (born September 13, 1976) is an American academic, lawyer, and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 17th congressional district as a member of the Democratic Party. Khanna defeated eight-term incumbent Congressman Mike Honda in the general election held on November 8, 2016, after he ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in 2014. Khanna also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the United States Department of Commerce under President Barack Obama. Khanna only accepts donations from individuals and is one of only six members of Congress who does not take campaign contributions from Political Action Committees (PACs) or corporations.
