Michael "Mickey" Sherman (born circa 1947) is a Connecticut-based American criminal defense attorney. He is known for his representation of Michael Skakel. Sherman's client was found guilty. In October 2013, a judge ordered a retrial for Skakel, citing Sherman’s "glaring ineffectiveness"; the State has appealed to the Connecticut Supreme Court and a decision is expected sometime in 2015 or 2016. On March 15, 2011, Sherman was sent to prison for failing to pay more than $1.1 million in federal taxes. Sherman was released from prison in December 2011 and returned to the active practice of law in 2012.
