Chloe (also Chloë, Chloé) is a feminine name, meaning 'blooming' or 'fertility'. It was especially popular in the United Kingdom since about 1990, and peaking in popularity later in the 1990s and during the early years of the 21st century. The name comes from the Greek (khlóē), of the many names of the Greek goddess Demeter, and refers to the young, green foliage or shoots of plants. The name appears in the New Testament, in 1 Corinthians 1:11 in the context of "the house of Chloe". The French equivalent is spelled Chloé.
